Registration opens August 1, 2017

Join us for awesome worship, inspiring speakers, fun and meaningful workshops, good food and great fellowship! Youth in 6th-12th grade are welcome with their youth group and youth workers.

REGISTRATION

  • EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION opens August 1 – September 30 $40/person
  • September 30 – November 1 $50/person
  • OnSite (if there is space) $60/person

Registration includes lunch and dinner Saturday, snacks, t-shirt, and materials.

Lodging options will be included in registration information, including nearby local churches and room blocks in hotels.

Workshops will include:

Mission and Service, Conference Choir, Bible Study, Creative Writing, Youth Group Games, Following the Call, Faith After High School, and more! There will also be workshops for Youth Workers!

Youth Workers are asked to meet Child Protection ratios of adults and students in their own group. Each group is responsible for their lodging (options will be provided) and transportation. Our conference will end late Saturday evening. All groups are welcome to attend Mt.Pleasant First UMC on November 12, or are encouraged to attend a local church that has hosted them, or to head home to be in your own church Sunday morning.

Pastor Mark Sheets, Lead Pastor of Good Shepherd UMC in Kansas City, MS

Mark was born and raised in St. Louis, with school stops at Mizzou (BA in Psychology), Chicago (Master of Divinity) and Los Angeles (Doctorate in Youth, Family and Culture). He’s served churches for nine years in Chicago and St. Louis, before being appointed to Good Shepherd in the summer of 2011. Ordained in 2008, Mark loves watching lives transform as they find the joy of following Christ and give their life away to Him. Mark is passionate about youth ministry and loves to help young people experience the love of God.

Deacon Caleb Williams, Minister of Worship and Creative Arts at Royal Oak First UMC in Royal Oak, MI

Caleb received both a Master of Divinity and a Master of Sacred Music from Boston University. He received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education (Choral/General) from Western Michigan University. In 2015, Caleb was commissioned as a provisional Deacon in the United Methodist Church. He has a passion for new forms of liturgy and liturgical music. Caleb enjoys working with children and youth in music, in service and especially at camp.

SPARK

For The Spark, worship is more than a moment that occurs in a limited Sunday morning timeframe. The group’s music grew organically from a lifestyle deeply involved in their local church in Kenosha, WI, and its corresponding School of Worship. Their debut full-length live albums include  “Your Love Is Strong” (August 2010) and  “Burning Hearts” (May 2015).It is their desire to write and play songs that glorify God, declare truth, and are relevant to today’s culture. It is their prayer that, through their music, the Holy Spirit will ignite a genuine passion for God in the hearts of this generation. A fire, after all, begins with a spark.

When is Connection17? Where is it? Who is coordinating it?

November 10th and 11th, 2017. Opening Worship will start at 7pm on Friday, November 10th. Saturday will include speakers, workshops, lunch, dinner, hangout time, worship, and a closing concert (finishing around 10pm).

How do we register? What do I need to know to register?

In the registration form, you will need to include:

 

  1. Your church
  2. A primary adult contact and information
    (a secondary adult is suggested but not required)
  3. Estimated number of youth and adults attending and t-shirt sizes
  4. Your housing preference
  5. A deposit for the event

What if we need to change something on our registration form?

If you need to fix, change, or update anything on your registration form, please email Jen Peters at jpeters@detroitconference.org with the updates.

What if our group size changes?

We know that youth commitments change frequently, so you do not need to submit a list of names with registration, just an estimated number of youth and adults for planning purposes. If this changes by 1 or 2, don’t worry about it! If you add or lose more than that, please email Jen Peters at jpeters@detroitconference.org to update the number and estimated t-shirt sizes.

What is the cost? Is there a deposit?

If you register between August 1st and September 30th, the cost is $40 per person. A deposit of $120 is due at the time of registration (you can pay by credit card, or mail in a check). The deposit is the cost for your first 3 attendees. The balance due for all other attendees can be paid when you arrive!

 

Example: If you have 13 attending (the total of youth and adults), the first 3 are paid for in the deposit, and you will owe $400 when you arrive for the other 10 attendees.

 

If you register in October (1st-31st), the cost is $50 per person. A deposit of $150 will be due at the time of registration (you can pay by credit card, or mail in a check). The deposit is the cost for your first 3 attendees. The balance due for all other attendees can be paid when you arrive!

 

Online registration will be closed on the night of October 31st. Please contact Jen Peters at jpeters@detroitconference.org to see if there is still space available. The cost will be $60 per person for those registering on or after November 1st.

Where do I mail a deposit check?

Please mail all deposit checks to Jen Peters as soon as possible. Make sure the name of your church is on the check!

What is covered in the cost of registration?

Connection17 is a youth event that will include a speaker, worship, workshops, game and hangout time, and a concert. We will also have workshops geared towards youth leaders and parents…so there is something for everyone! Registration also gets you a t-shirt, Saturday lunch and dinner, and snacks.

What is NOT covered in the cost of registration?

Please eat dinner Friday night before you arrive. Also, Saturday and Sunday breakfasts and the cost of housing (hotels or otherwise) are not included in the registration fee. Please budget and plan for these on your own!

What housing options are available?

Housing is not provided for Connection 17. There are several area churches that are offering floor space to groups who want to keep expenses down, or there are area hotels with discounted room blocks. YOU are responsible for making housing arrangements.
